SPATIAL UNITS FORMING THE NEOGRADIENSISIS EUROREGION
The Euroregion includes the area of the historical Novohrad - on the Slovak side the districts of Lučenec and Veľký Krtíš, on the Hungarian side the Nógrád County.
it is the natural geographic centre of the south part of the Banská Bystrica county. It is bordered by the districts of Veľký Krtíš, Rimavská Sobota, Poltár, Detva and by the Hungarian Republic from south. It is geologically and morphologically very various. The district is rich on natural beauties. The central part of the district is flat, especially along the Ipel river, where the soil is most fertile. In spite of its southern location, the district is quite hilly. Its northern part belongs to the Slovenské Rudohorie, another part belongs to the Slovenské Stredohory. The Cerová Vrchovina part of the Mátransko-Slánska area reaches into the south-east part of the district. This flows into the Lučensko-košická plain, with its exstensive sub-unit, the Lučenská and the Ipeľská basin.
Towns of the district - the district seat is Lucenec and the other town of the district Filakovo.
Poltár district
it is located on the south of the Banská Bystrica county. It is bordered by the Rimavská Sobota district from east, by the Lučenec district from south and south-west, by the Detva district from north-west and by the Brezno district from north in a length of 7 km. The relief of the Poltár district gradually rises from south to north, from an altitude of 195m in the Lučenská basin at the Ipeľ river outflow near Kalinovo to an altitude of 1118 m on the highland plains of the Stolické mountains which is the part of the Slovenské Rudohorie. The district seat is the town ofPoltár.
Velky Krtis district
it is situated on the south of Slovakia (and the Banská Bystrica county). From the south it neighbours with Hungary, on the east with Lučenec district, on the north with the districts of Detva, Zvolen and Krupina, on the west with the Levice district. This district was created in 1968integration of communities, which belonged to the cancelled district of Modrý Kameň (in 1960). The town of the district are Veľký Krtíš and Modrý Kameň. The territory of the district is determined by the Ipel river from the south (it is also the border with Hungary) and by the Krupinská plain from the north.
Nograd county
it is the smallest county in Hungary. It is situated on the north border of Hungary, north-eastward from the most dynamically developing area of the country, the Pest county which includes Budapest. With its characteristic small and middle mountains it is kind of a transition between the high mountains of the Carpathian Mountains and the flat areas of the Hungarian plains. Its centre is Salgótarján. There are five other towns in the county: Balassagyrmat, Bátonyterenye, Pásztó, Rétság, Szécsény.
